Nasan Energies gets approval to secure 52 service stations, starts rebranding

Nasan Energies’ co-founder, Miguel Hamutenya stated that the public will see notable changes countrywide as the company embarks on aggressive rebranding of the acquired service stations.

This comes after the Namibia Competition Commission (NaCC) gave official authorisation for the company to acquire 52 Engen and Shell service stations countrywide, in a landmark acquisition from Vivo Energy Namibia.

“We’ve invested so much into this acquisition to date and have only been waiting on the confirmation from the Namibia Competition Commission to implement. We urge the public to be part of this re-branding exercise and to look forward to the same entrusted service with more emphasis on our local suppliers and empowerment to our local service providers,” Hamutenya stated.

The acquisition has enabled Nasan Energies to become the third-largest fuel retailer in Namibia, after Vivo Energy and Puma Energy.

Upon the confirmation, Nasan Energies’ managing director, Jean-Blaise Ollomo expressed his gratitude to the public, stakeholders and dealers that have supported the two-year long journey and its commitment to localising ownership.

“We are pleased about the outcome and we remain committed by upholding the international standards of the operations and to far exceed expectations from the public. The next steps will now be to engage all relevant dealers and stakeholders to finalise implementation,” he said.

Background:

The approval of the acquisition comes after a stakeholders’ conference hosted by NaCC a few weeks ago, where the public could voice its opinion on the proposed deal. The outcome was favourable and accepted in favour of Nasan Energies, one of the first privately-owned Namibian entities to lead the market.

In May 2024, Vivo Energy completed the purchase of Engen Limited from Petronas, which included the Engen Namibia business. Following a thorough evaluation process that assessed both technical expertise and financial proposals, Nasan Energies was selected as the preferred bidder.
